Lolkurraru and Njeru claim wins at Grossglockner Berglauf 2021

Lengen Lolkurraru and Joyce Muthoni Njeru both clinched WMRA World Cup victories at Grossglockner Berglauf 2021 on Sunday.

The men’s race saw Kenyan Lolkurraru finish in 1:11:48, just under a minute clear of 2019 winner Filmon Abraham and nearly two minutes ahead of local athlete Manuel Innerhofer.

Geoffrey Gikuni Ndungu, who took the final podium stop at Grossglockner in 2019, came home in fourth.

Italian Cesare Maestri, who picked up second in the World Championships in 2019 and second in the recent National Mountain Running Championship, finished fifth.

In the women’s race Njeru stopped the clock at 1:23:46 to claim her win, 24 seconds clear of compatriot Purity Kajuju Gitonga who also finished second at Grossglockner in 2019.

2017 World Champion Lucy Murigi finished third, over four minutes back from race winner Muthoni Njeru to complete an all-Kenyan podium.

Charlotte Morgan, who claimed victory at the season-opening Tatra Race Run, finished tenth.

The next round of the WMRA World Cup is La Montee Du Nid d’Aigle on July 17, in Saint-Gervais, France.
