Defending champion Simon Roberts threw down a challenge to race leader Chris Cope with an impressive Day Four performance in the Montane Dragon’s Back Race.

The Welshman recorded the fastest time of the day of 7:41:49 clawing back 30 minutes on long-time race leader Chris Cope who finished third on the day with a time of 8:11:48. James Nobles was second on the day with 08:07:00.

In the women’s race Lisa Watson’s dominance continued as she extended her overall lead to more than eight hours with a time of 8:13:37, fourth fastest overall on the day and a time that moved her into eighth place overall.

Bridget Glaister was second women home on the day (10:18:49) and Victoria Morris third (11:10:11)

Men: 1 C Cope (32:54:12), 2 S Roberts (33:57:37) 3 J Nobles (34:15:10).

Day five sees the runners covering 43.5 miles ascending 3,200m including the six main peaks of the Brecon Beacons before the final overnight camp near Talybont Reservoir.
