Keswick-based mountain runner George Foster has become the first UK athlete to join the Dynafit international running team.

The 36-year-old, who works as a firefighter, is one of the UK’s top fell and mountain running specialists.

He made plenty of headlines in 2020 when he ran the second-fastest Bob Graham Round in 13 hours and 44 minutes.

That was quicker than Billy Bland’s long-standing 1982 record, with only Kilian Jornet (12:52 in 2018) having run it faster.

Global stage

Foster’s running CV also includes a win at Trail du Velan and runner-up spots at the Matterhorn Ultraks and the Rut Skyrace.

Last year he claimed victory at the Grisedale Horseshoe fell race and also came out on top in the British Athletics Ultra Trail Championship.

Mapping out his targets for 2022, Foster says the focus is on securing GB selection for the World Championships in November.

And that will be with the backing of his new team: “I’m really looking forward to representing Dynafit on the international stage.

“It’s a really innovative and forward-thinking company with a great, mutually-realised attitude towards mountains and racing.”
