Laura O’Driscoll (IRE) and Graham Walton (GBR) held on to their leads in the final day of the Cape Wrath Ultra to finish first in the women’s and men’s races.

The two had been the front-runners for most of the race with O’Driscoll battling through more than half of the race with a painful ankle injury picked up on day three and Walton under pressure from Norway’s Thomas Øderud.

But in the end, the leads that they took into the final day were sufficient to give them a comfortable finish with O’Driscoll crossing the line an hour-and-a-half up on Vicki Savage (GBR) and Walton one hour and forty minutes ahead of Øderud.

“I’m so sore, but I’m so happy,” said O’Driscoll. ” The painkillers today were helpful, but I’ll be in a world of pain for a while. I’m emotional. It’s one of the hardest weeks that I’ve had – it’s tough, mentally and physically.”

Claire Gordon (GBR) was comfortably third in the women’s race and David Barry took third in the men’s race.
