Laura O’Driscoll (IRE) and Graham Walton (GBR) lead the way after day seven of the Cape Wrath Ultra setting up what promises to be a thrilling final day.

O’Driscoll has been battling with an ankle injury since the third day of the women’s race and has seen her lead steadily reduced by the strong running Vicky Savage (GBR). At the end of day seven, Savage was second overall, one hour and 36 minutes behind O’Driscoll, and there is no doubt she will be pushing hard to close that gap on the final day.

Claire Gordon (GBR) put in another strong performance to hold on to third place overall.

In the men’s race, Walton will go in to the final day with an hour and 15 minute lead over Norwegian Thomas Øderud. The two have duelled for first and second place over the last three days but Walton ended Day seven with a clear advantage. Ireland’s David Barry retained third spot finishing just under 30 minutes ahead of Belgium’s Kurt Alderweireldt in fourth.
The final day will see the racers covering the 24km between Kinlochbervie and Cape Wrath – the most north westerly point in the UK.
