2023 Western States Champion Tom Evans has been a force to be reckoned with on the cross country so far this winter, as he prepares for another big year on the trails.

The Brit, who a week ago finished second at the London International Cross Country after a sprint finish with triathlete Hugo Milner, won his second cross country title of the month this past weekend in Leamington Spa.

Taking the tape at the Midlands Counties Championships against a highly competitive field, Evans once again demonstrated his incredible prowess across all manner of terrains.

“Biggest year on the trails yet”

In 2023, Evans put together a masterclass in California to win the Western States 100, where the former British Army Captain became only the fifth man to finish the race in under 15 hours.

The 31-year-old, who was also on the podium at Black Canyon Ultras and Ultra-Trail Snowdonia last year, is yet to announce his main goals for this season but appears to be in great form.

Beating 28:35 10km man Omar Ahmed by almost 15 seconds on Saturday to take the win, Evans said he plans on turning his attention to the trails and capitalising on his current cross country fitness and success.

“Another good week of work topped off with another XC race and the win. Laying the foundations to build off for what if going to be my biggest year on the trails yet.”
