Virtual running club to deliver running inspiration to your door

A year at home and the nation’s two favourite new past times are running and reading. Now a start-up in Liverpool has combined the two to offer a running club that’s also a reading group. Bookhounds is a monthly book subscription box and a virtual club for people who enjoy running and reading.

A book a month

Launched at the start of 2021, Bookhounds members receive a new book every month that aims to inspire their running life. The books will share a wide range of runners’ stories and members will enjoy online chats and complimentary content such as author interviews and a podcast reviewing each book.

The first book of the month that arrived in member’s letterboxes in early February, is ‘Finding Gobi’ by Dion Leonard. This is the real-life story of a stray dog that captures the heart of endurance runner Dion Leonard, during a 155-mile race across China’s Gobi Desert. The podcast guest for this episode is Helen from Canicross UK, who chats to presenters Char and Jak about running with your dog as well as reviewing the book.

Each month’s book is a surprise, until it lands on doormats, but future volumes will include a mix of brand new, fringe and classic running books. The aim is to showcase runners’ stories and share a passion for running and reading.

Char Binns, Bookhounds Founder and Top Dog said:

“It’s true, we’re a little bit geeky about running. But mostly, we’re interested in people, in our global community of runners. We’re here to showcase and introduce our members to a diverse range of runners, from ultra-marathon champions to everyday heroes. Bookhounds is for everyone.”

Members can choose from a monthly rolling subscription, a 3-month option or the best value, 12-month membership. As well as getting a new book every month, members receive exclusive content and contribute to a donation for literacy and environmental charities.
